Block Party! - League Championship

We ended up with the Think Award trophy and were finalists in several other categories (5 of the 7!).

Haggerty High School was the home of this years league championship.

We won all are matches and ended up the 2nd ranked team for the day with the highest single match score of the day. Took Motor Monkeys and with us into the finals. Had a rough time there when the robot died unexpectedly. Super 7's alliance took home the well deserved win. We are so proud of how well they have performed their rookie year. Definetly inspired us to try harder to keep that gap close. Coming into this event, we already knew we were headed to the state championship, just not sure where we'd rank. Super 7 is first in the state with their undefeated record. Renaissance Robotics is 2nd, having lost just 2 matches all season - both in our first event.

League Championship Think Award (trophy)

League Championship - 2nd Place Finalist Inspire Award

League Championship - Connect Finalist

League Championship - Design Finalist

League Championship - 2nd place in robot game, highest score

We won all our matches at University High School. Lots of great alliance partners to work with contributed to our success. We ended the day with two trophies - one for being on the winning alliance and another Think Award for our engineering notebook.

We met with a few challenges in our first meet which was held at Haggerty High school. We ended up with 3 wins and 2 losses. In the robot competition we were 10th on the scoreboard out of the 24 teams in our league. Not where we hoped to be, but we're still proud of our work. We know where we have to improve in our  "stand on the shoulders of giants" approach.

The first meet of the season and all the typical things that could go wrong did. We ended up lending parts or batteries to three teams - Syeknom Rotom (samantha unit), iDawgs/Dawgs of Steel (servo screws) and ditu (batteries). Super 7 and several other rookie teams took advantage of the extra copies of our scouting worksheet that we had brought with us. We had RoboGT looking at our code trying to help us figure out why our autonmous program would run on the practice field, but not on the playing field. Only in FIRST do you make sure that the teams that you're about to play against have the tools to beat you! Gracious Professionalism ROCKS!

After the winning alliance (ditu and RoboGT) and the finalist alliance (Super 7 and Error 404) collected their trophies. There was a single piece of hardware sitting on the table. The coveted Think Award for the best engineering notebook. Hector, the annoucer, starts talking about crowns and kingdoms, lords and ladies - that can ONLY be one team! We still have all the Think Awards that Tesla Robotics League has ever given out - all two of them!

All in all it was a great day with old friends and new ones. In a month, we do it all again! Now we know what the competition is, and they know what we can do, so the robot arms race has begun. Who can improve the fastest?

Block Party! - Build It Day

Posted by 5937 Renaissance Robotics on October 19, 2013 at 6:35 PM Comments comments (0)

Orlando Science Schools hosted this. Had a great time, seeing old friends, meeting the new teams, attended a couple of workshops and mostly didn't build anything! RoboGT has a GREAT robot already that can accomplish everything on the board. They will likely end up as one of the top teams this year.
